Europe Trip Country 4: Germany

15 Sept 2009

1. Munich

Munich Olympic Stadium + BMW

After breakfast, we travelled down to Olympic city of Munich. We were heading to the Munich Olympic Stadium. Near the olympic park, we saw the headquarters of Bayerishche Motoren Werke AG aka BMW, one of the largest companies in Munich. We then visited the stadium. It is famous for its 1972 Olympic games. The Germans, not only created a mini landscape of South Germany's Bavaria state out from the old air field, developers actually utilised the debris of the 2nd War. to fill this vast land. We now see lakes, hill and open gardens, gracing the site.

The city

We then entered the city, and stop some distance from the Town Hall. The pedestrian zone lead us to the heart of MarienPlatz. We stopped here to grab some local German food, especially German sausage. Do not be surprised to see all the taxi are Mercedez.

Pic: German white sausage and pretzel. Prezel has a dark brown, crispy, salty crust, and inside a soft dough. It has think, crispy crossed "arms". It is bit too salty for me though.

2. New Swan Castle

We came face to face with the New Swan Castle, one of the highlights of the tour. We had ample time too marvel at this fairy-tale setting. We took mini bus to ascend the mountain for the lovely view by the hanging bridge. It is one of the most beautiful and famous castle in Germany. Originally ordered to be built by King Ludwig II, this fairy tale castle is the epitome of neo-romantic style. It was a regret for not being able to get into the castle due to lack of time. Many of the rooms in the enchanting castle remained bare. Only 14 rooms were finished before Ludwig's death. Yet the beauty of this famous German castle cannot be denied. The throne room is the picture of opulence.
