19 Sep 2022: Day 12
Swarovski Kristallwelten (Crystal Worlds) is an experience attraction created by André Heller for the crystal glass manufacturer Swarovski, consisting of a park, art museum, retail area, and restaurant. There are 17 chambers filled with crystal artwork inside the giant, with artists from all over the world presenting their work. Each chamber is its own little masterpiece focused on interior design, installations or holograms.
We drove to Salzburg, returned our rented car and started to explore this ancient town. With its backdrop of snow capped mountains, elegant Baroque architecture and narrow cobblestone streets, Salzburg’s Old Town stole my heart right from the start. After all, it’s hard not to fall in love with the town that was the cradle of one of the world’s greatest composers: Mozart!
Neighboring to German, pretzels are common snack in Austria as well.
Hohensalzburg Fortress is enthroned on the Festungsberg, high above the rooftops of the Baroque historical district. The biggest fully preserved castle in Central Europe, this emblem of Salzburg offers a 360-degree view of the city and its surroundings. It is a steep 15-minute walk from the center or a one-minute ride up in a glass funicular.
In the fortress there is a puppet museum with many exhibits from the world-famous Salzburg puppet theater in Schwarzstraße.
Being in a city, it was never too late to continue our exploration. The town remains pretty at dusk.
At the foot of the Mönchsberg, in Salzburg’s Mülln neighbourhood, beer has been brewed and then enjoyed amongst social circles since 1621.
Regional and traditional dishes can be bought directly from various food stands in the "Schmankerlgang" (Delicatessen arcade) which is set up to resemble a traditional marketplace. I rarely drink beer but the beer here is undoubtedly be one of my favorites. We actually returned to this place the next day
