Hong Kong: Cheong Chau Island

13 Dec 2013

The first island that I visited in my third visit to Hong Kong was Cheong Chau. Cheong Chau is a small island located 10km southwest of Hong Kong island. I alighted at Hong Kong MTR station and walked to the Central Pier through Internation Fincance Center(IFC).

I arrived Cheong Chau at about noon time. The weather wasn't really good. Pictures look pale. Cheong Chau in my impression is a fishing village, which is well known for its fresh and dried seafood. Small boats, seafood restaurants and dried seafood can be seen along the main street.

On the way to the beach, 东堤小筑can be seen. It is a resort which I heard is popular for love affair(偷情胜地), suicide(烧炭自杀), and ghost stories(鬼故).

After passing by the beach, I came to this mini great wall. The scenery along this coastal stretch is gorgeous and there are also a number of strangely shaped rocks sprinkled along the trail.

Many houses in this small island look old and they are left abandoned. This makes the houses appear to be even more eerie, especially they are located in quiet alleys.

On the main street in Cheong Chau, on the right after you alighted from the ferry, there are a shop houses which sell street food and dried seafood. Big fish ball is one of their signature street food. People claimed that it is as big as a human fist but actually it is smaller than that. Fish ball can be served in different flavours. Another street food I had was the cheese baked lobster. It tasted really good despite it was little expensive for it serving size.
