Cellophane noodles (also known as Chinese vermicelli, bean threads, bean thread noodles, crystal noodles, or glass noodles) are a type of transparent Asian noodle made from starch (such as mung bean starch, yam, potato starch, cassava or canna starch), and water.
It is a dish recommended by axian. Crab is not my favourite as my family do not normally cook it/order it when we go out for dinner. The main motivation that push me for this crab glass noodle was actually the noodle. I am a fan of glass noodle, especially after they are stewed to absorb the gravy.
This restaurant is situated at Bercham, Ipoh. I have been told about their poor service from blog/internet. But still I would like to make a try. P/S: I felt nothing wrong with their service
You are advised to book your table/crabs earlier in order to make sure you have your seats/crabs.

I ordered the crab glass noodle and cheese baked prawns for two servings and they costed me about RM80.

Their noodle was nice, but it was not what I expected. The gravy was bit watery and there was too much black pepper. But still it was fantastic!!!

On my second visit three months later, I tried another two signature dishes which were steamed lala and fish porridge. I can assure you that you would never regret to order the steamed lala (giving that they maintain their quality) despite the fact that you would have to at least spend around RM45 for three-four servings. The lala were so big, fat and chewy (Q). The porridge tasted great, except for its texture. It did not taste like porridge, but rice in soup/gravy.

天津茶餐室
Address / 店址:73, Jalan Bandar Timah, Ipoh Old Town, 30000 Ipoh, Perak.
Business Hour / 营业时间:morning

It is a well known restaurant in Ipoh, for its chicken kuey teow, popiah, chee cheong fun and their dessert (steam egg).

I like the chicken kuey teow for its smooth thin noodle and soup. Their keuy teow is not as thick and coarse as the ones we have at normal restuarant.

When the bowl of noodle is served, you can see the soup is orangish. Try to taste the soup and see if you could taste the main ingrediant that causes it so. Yes!!! prawns.

I was told by my mum that the soup is actually cooked with prawn shells. I like the soup to the max!!!

The last few times I went for chicken kuey teow at 8 plus but the stall was not opened yet. So do not go too early.
I also like the chee cheong fun for the same reason, smooth thin noodle. However, the taste of their gravy/sauce is a little bit disappointed.

pic: plain cheong fun with soya sauce, oil, sesame and onion. Recommended pic: cheong fun with mixture of sauces
Next, I ordered the popiah too. From the first bite, I can taste the filling contains slice of cucumber, turnips, mushroom and pieces of crunchy dried tofu (I guess). In my opinion, the crunchy dried tofu plays the main role to give better biting sense. But I prefer the popiah from Yee Lock more. (Scroll down to bottom of this post to read about Yee Lock popiah)

I was not able to order the steam egg as dessert this time as I was too full. But it is a must try item too as it is rare in Malaysia. Being a little bit expensive, it costs around RM2.30.

德记炒粉 (don't go for the 新德记)

Address / 店址: 61, Jalan Yau Tet Shin, 30300 Ipoh, Perak.

Business Hour / 营业时间:5pm - 2am

I would recommend you to try their dried hokkien fried keuy teow, hokkien fried bihun mian and boiled octapus. Being honest, the fried noodle would be oily (as usual) and their lards arent crunchy. But the taste is definitely good.
Fried squid is very common for almost all of us. But have you ever tried boiled octapus? Fried food is not always nice and necessary be the best food in the world. I did not expect this boiled ocatapus can be so delicious. The octapus are boiled and then served with soya sauce, sesame oil, and fried onion. You can taste the natural sweetness of the octapus.
However, today, I thought of giving a try to another shop (新德记炒粉) next to it though the customers were obviously less. They both originate from the same restaurant or family probably. I ordered fried keuy teow and hokkian noodles. Well, the food did taste a bit different. I would still recommend 德记炒粉.

大树脚酿料

Address / 店址:兵如港大树脚
Business Hour / 营业时间:morning till evening

As you know, my family run the same business too. So I always have high expectation on this. I can assure you that, except for my mother's restaurant, I could not find any of other places which serves nice dried noodles so far. Unlike my mom's restaurant, this stall serves dried noodle with soya sauce, dark soya sauce and some other seasoning ingrediants. The main ingrediants that my mum use to differ her dried noodles than others' is actually the mushroom gravy.

But, I am still attracted by its various types of 酿料 served. Among them, fried wantan, dried tofu, and 'you tiao' are always my favourite. And I like the soup too, with strong taste of enchovis.

德记烧腊

Address / 店址: 1-3, Jalan King, Taman Hoover, 31650 Ipoh, Negeri Perak  (opposite the famous peanut candy)
Business Hour / 营业时间:noon till evening

I have been hearing about this for a long time but surprisingly my family never try it out. All the time, we normally will go for 新扬威 which is so sucessful in their roasted meat. And now I can say it is true. 德记 is still not as good as 新扬威 for the roasted duck in my opinion, but I do like its 烧肉 where the skin can be so crunchy.

Restoran Yee Lock - 玲珑鱼滑生面

Address / 店址:173,Jalan Raja Permaisuri Bainun,30250 Ipoh,Perak.Business Hour / 营业时间:recommend to go after 10am.

Usually visited by the locals, they have braised and soup version of 玲珑鱼滑生面. Braised version tastes richer but if you have buffer in stomach do try out the soup version as well. You have to mention to put in 玲珑鱼滑 when ordering otherwise they will cook the noodle with just pork slices. You need to go to the back kitchen to order, they do not have stall at the front.

Restaurant Yee Lock

Address / 店址:44, Jalan Raja Musa Aziz, Kampung Jawa, 30300 Ipoh, Negeri Perak, Malaysia
Business Hour / 营业时间: 6.30pm - 9.30pm

Another restaurant also named Yee Lock but is famous for its popiah. It is one of the best Popiah in Ipoh. The father used to sell in a stall by the road along Jalan Keliling, Canning Garden. After his passing, the son inherited the legacy of selling this famous Canning Garden Popiah. Savour the crisp texture and flavours all in one bite which are wrapped firmly in a roll. I like the dried shrimp taste in the popiah.

安记牙菜鸡

Address / 店址:51 Jalan Yau Tet Sin, 30300 Ipoh Perak
Business Hour / 营业时间:Opens daily, 10am till midnight or when everything runs out

There are two Onn Kee restaurants, one across from Lou Wong and the other next to it.While the rivalry between the shops may have ebbed, the debate on which one is better is still a conundrum that divides the locals. I always go to the one next to Lou Wong as it has air-conditioning. As usual, we ordered taugeh, chicken and hor fun, sometimes the meatball soup too.

长江白咖啡

Address / 店址:7, Jalan Windsor, 30250 Ipoh, Negeri Perak, Malaysia
Business Hour / 营业时间:9 - 6pm

My friends like their toast and white coffee. The toast is evenly toasted and crispy. There is shop attached to the restaurant where you can buy their 3-in-1 white coffee.
